Lagos Auto Show/Autoparts Expo : We’re Right on Course Despite Challenges – Organisers

Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Agwu, Managing Director,BKG Exhibitions Limited

BKG Exhibitions Limited, organisers of the annual Lagos International Motor Show and Africa Autoparts Expo, has stated that they are right on course on the determination to continue with the annual automotive industry events.

Managing Director of BKG Exhibitions and Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mt. Ifeanyichukwu Agu, stated this while briefing newsmen at this year’s event which started on June 4 running through June 7 at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Expressing satisfaction at the turnout of exhibitors at this year’s event despite the  economic challenges facing the country, Agwu said, the large turnout of exhibitors, especially in the autoparts expo, was an indication that there is big business in that sector in Nigeria. He however maintained that his company was not abandoning the auto show for autoparts, citing the participation of  leading automobile companies which are big players in the market in this year’s show to boost his point.

”We are not abandoning the autoshow for auto parts. Things will surely improve with subsequent editions if it seems auto parts exhibitors are taking the shine now,” the BKG boss said, adding that the exhibition of CNG vehicles by one of the leading exhibitors – Mikano Motors – is a big plus for the event even as he lauded the Federal Government for the CNG initiative.

Speaking on the drive behind the annual events despite obvious challenges, Agwu said; ” We are daring the challenges and we’ll continue to push desire the tough business climate. We will keep pushing as we continue to have exhibitors from all over the world. It is a gradual process but it will get better. The fact that they are coming from even as far as China and Turkey to Nigeria is an indication that the business is big in this country and we are very happy about this.”
On the CNG drive, Agwu said, “It is the best. Very clean energy, low noise and very cheap. I have even chosen to convert my vehicle. Nigerians will catch up with the technology with time. CNG cleans the engine. LPG Generator is the best, people don’t know what they are missing by not going the gas way.”
On the expectations at the exhibition,  he said ”Nigerians doubt a lot and the fact is that people should come and learn from those who are exhibiting.  The exhibitions offer a lot for Nigerians…. tourism, employment, sealing new deals and others. The exhibitors  are bringing in money into the economy and developing the automotive sector by building new relationships with local stakeholders. With all these and more, the objectives of the events are being realised.”
Over 100 local and foreign exhibitors are participating in the year’s show and exhibitors come from China, Turkey and other parts of the world with local companies in the lubricants, insurance and allied sectors also in attendance. Mikano Motors, Carloha Chery, Toyota by CFAO,  Winparts, Mercedes-Benz Parts, Linkage Assurance and others added fun and glamour to this year’s events.
