Alex Boavida has assumed duties as Vice-Chairperson of the National Automobile Dealers’ Association (NADA) . She was elected as Joint Vice-Chairperson with Marcia Mayaba at the NADA AGM, which took place in the last quarter of 2021. Her appointment as sole Vice-Chairperson takes immediate effect .
Her assumption of duties follows the departure of Marcia, who has taken up a new role within the Manufacturing sector of the automotive industry, consequently bringing to an end her tenure as the Vice Chairperson of NADA.
“We are grateful to Marcia for her transformational leadership during her term, especially in her role as Chairperson of the NADA Transformation Committee. The dedication, time and effort she has put into the association during her tenure is truly appreciated. We wish her well on her new journey and look forward to the possibility of working with her on the manufacturing side of this vibrant industry,” says Mark Dommisse, Chairperson of NADA.
Alex is the Dealer Principal of Mercedes-Benz Sandton, the Original Equipment Manufacturer’s (OEM’s) flagship store situated at 92 Rivonia Road, Sandton, Gauteng. It is the first dealership of its kind in the world and the biggest on the continent.
“I’m honoured to serve as Vice-Chairperson. The NADA has played a key role in helping our industry weather this incredibly challenging pandemic. I look forward to working alongside Mark, the NEC and our many stakeholders as we recover and grow in these rapidly developing times,” says Boavida.
“This is an industry that touches every aspect of a business – from technical, logistics, and customer service, to sales, marketing, finance, full asset management and so much more. No one day is the same as the next, which all adds to the thrill and excitement of the industry in which we operate,” says Boavida.

Her professional approach to business coupled with her vast experience in automotive retail, will stand us in good stead. The National Automobile Dealers’ Association (NADA) is a professional body representing the interests of business persons who own, operate and manage new passenger and commercial vehicle franchise motor dealerships and qualifying used vehicle only outlets in South Africa. There are currently 1,326 NADA members. NADA members make up 85% of all new franchise dealerships in South Africa. South Africa currently has approximately 1,600 new franchised automotive dealerships comprising R48-billion worth of investment. It employs 60,000 personnel directly and a further 25,000 indirectly.
NADA is a proud constituent association of the Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI) and has affiliations with a number of similar organisations world-wide. NADA is committed to enhancing the image of the retail motor business; facilitating the interface between dealers and the motor manufacturers and importers who supply them; building rewarding relationships between dealers and their customers; and bringing relevant issues facing its members to the attention of government at all levels.
As a major role player in the automotive industry, NADA and its members are strong supporters of complying with the Retail Motor Industry Organisation and the Consumer Protection Act’s Codes of Conduct for the Automotive Industry. In all forums, NADA is the fully representative and respected voice of the retail motor industry in South Africa.
