Mitsubishi Motors grows market share in tough market with new Pajero Sport

Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA) has held its head high after dealerships started trading again after the 2020 Lockdown, with the newly-launched Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, adding a new model to the line-up, leading the way.

The addition of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Exceed, Mitsubishi’s most stylish Pajero Sport yet, September sales have increased for the third month in a row compared to pre-Covid numbers.

The new 2.4L MIVEC Turbodiesel 8-speed A/T 4×4 Exceed, joining the 2.4L MIVEC Turbodiesel 8-speed A/T 4×2 and 2.4L MIVEC Turbodiesel 8-speed A/T 4×4, led the way of Mitsubishi’s strong domestic sales performance.

Not to be left behind, other Mitsubishi models such as the Eclipse Cross and Triton have also increased sales compared to the previous three months thanks to special offers (0% deposit and low installment deals) across the range.

Although overall industry sales are down from 49 140 in September 2019 to 37 403 in September 2020 – a decline of 23.9% – Mitsubishi Motors have increased its sales across the board.

“The new Pajero Sport, which was only introduced last month and available from the 17th of September onwards, proved extremely important to Mitsubishi Motors,” says Nic Campbell, General Manager of Mitsubishi Motors South Africa.

“MMSA’s strength and renewed emergence in the lifestyle sector over recent months is set to continue to grow in 2021.

“We will continue to invest in world-class products and people, who provide the very best experience to our customers. The introduction of innovative products such as the new Pajero Sport, showcases trust and technology to the market and will ensure some significant growth for the brand in the coming year.”

Outstanding features of the new “Boss of the Mitsubishi Stable” that impresses customers include the new Pajero Sport’s improved style and luxury and a host of improvements based on Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield design approach.

Apart from the proven and ever reliable and powerful 2.4-litre MIVEC turbodiesel driving the new Pajero Sport, one of its most outstanding visual features is its new front grille, giving the upgraded version an enhanced, more stylish, and modern look.

Setting the pace at the front, the Pajero Sport Exceed, the new derivative bringing the range to three models, offers all the built-in safety and luxury features inherent of the Mitsubishi brand.

As is the case with the standard Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 4×4, the new Exceed is paired with Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II system which delivers performance in the most challenging driving conditions and rugged terrain thanks to its selectable Off-Road Driving Modes maximising traction on and across various surfaces.

At the front, standard design features of the updated range also include Mitsubishi’s RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body construction.

Safety features in all models help keep occupants safe. On the passive front, the Pajero Sport offers 7 airbags and ISOFIX child seat anchors, while on the active safety front the top model includes active stability and traction control (ASTC), anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and an emergency brake assist system (BAS).

The Eclipse Cross was another top-performing model in the Mitsubishi stable offering a variety of safety and luxury equipment, including tilt and telescopic adjustment for the steering column with a multi-function leather-clad steering wheel with audio and cruise control settings at your fingertips as in the Pajero Sport Exceed.

The Pajero Sport offers Bluetooth with hands-free voice control, coupled to Mitsubishi’s advanced smartphone-link display audio (SDA) connected to a large 8” touch screen.

All new Pajero Sport and Eclipse models now have additional USB and additional accessory sockets (dual USB for the rear passengers) and a 220AC 150-Watt power plug with full leather throughout the interior.
